Three provinces namely British Columbia, Ontario and Prince Edward Island announced their Provincial Nominee Program draw results from July 15 to 20.
Provincial nominee programs exist so that a nominating province can exercise more control over the choice of economic immigrants who settle there. The provincial governments are likely to choose qualified applicants who are most likely to fill gaps in the local labour force.
An applicant who is nominated by a province has a substantially better probability of receiving an ITA for permanent residency. The nominated Express Entry candidates also gain 600 more Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points. It practically ensures an ITA in the subsequent draw.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) distribute the PNP nominations that are available to each province based on the goals outlined in the most recent Immigration Levels Plan. The Immigration Levels Plan specifies the goal for the admission of permanent residents for the next three years.
Provinces have recently demanded increased control over economic immigration and customized agreements with the federal government, similar to Quebec’s. According to the terms of the Canada-Quebec agreement, Quebec is the only province with such an agreement and has complete control over the choice of economic immigrants.
The province Immigration Levels Plan, a new effort from IRCC that details province nomination allocations for the next three years, was approved at a meeting of the forum of ministers responsible for immigration held in March of this year. Most allocations are now higher than they were previously.
The provinces will be given the tools they need to effectively prepare for more immigrants. Provinces can make sure that there are enough resources, such as housing, employment opportunities, and other crucial infrastructure, in place to support immigrants and make the province a desirable place to visit.
