Do you want to know how to apply for Quebec Skilled Worker Program? The province of Quebec holds a unique position in the Canadian immigration landscape owing to its French language and cultural heritage. It manages its own permanent programs. The regular skilled worker program (QSWP) is one of the major immigration pathways available to those who wish to settle in Quebec.
The largest Province in Canada with a multicultural population, Quebec is laden with rolling hills, vast forests, and numerous waterways. Often known as the ‘Europe of North America’, French is the official language of Quebec.
The most popular immigration pathway in the province is Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP).
Immigrants who are looking to migrate to the Canadian province need to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile to the Immigration Ministry, which is also called MIDI. Under the new program, the processing time takes less than a year to complete.
Quebec Skilled Worker (or QSW) program does not require applicants to show French proficiency, albeit the official language of the province is French.
However, proficiency in French factors into your eligibility points as well as your ranking in the Arrima pool. It is due to this reason that it is useful to have some proficiency in the language for increasing your chances with QSW.
The QSWP uses two points systems. The first one is used to determine who is invited to apply for permanent selection. If an applicant meets the minimum points requirement for submitting an Arrima profile, they will receive another score. This score is used by Quebec for ranking applicants against each other. Also, it can be used to determine who receives an ITA (Invitation to Apply) for a CSQ.
There are some unique categories based on the province’s culture needed by the applicant to qualify. Unlike the federal skilled immigrant program, the Skilled Immigrant Program in the province has no list of eligible occupations. There is no need for applicants to have a valid job offer.
If you are applying under the QSWP, then obtaining your Immigration Quebec Selection Certificate (CSQ) first from the province is of utmost importance. Then you can apply for permanent resident (PR) status with the federal government.
Applicants with a great interest in migrating to Quebec should submit an EOI (Expression of Interest) in their official portal known as ARIMA. After the processing of EOI, the application enters the pool/bank. Profiles receive a score in the bank.
The applicant to qualify requires at least a score of 50 if he or she is single and 59 if he or she is married. The points are calculated on the basis of various factors, including:
It would be wonderful for the applicants to have Quebec Work Experience and a job offer as they add to the applicant’s total points. But having these two is not necessary.
After the approval of EOI, the applicant receives a notification, which is based on the points for application and document submission. As soon as the application gets approved, the applicant receives the CSQ. Then the applicant gets the ITA after which he or she needs to apply for the VISA.
On the whole, the Quebec Skilled Worker Program is an assessment-based program where the respective province invites skilled workers after evaluating the applicant’s score grids.
The chosen applicants will receive CSQ – Quebec Selection Certificate – an official selection confirmation from the Ministry of Immigration Francisation and Integration (MIFI in short). The next step, in receiving CSQ, would be to apply to the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) for obtaining permanent residency.
Anybody who is 18 and above, and has fluency in French can apply for Quebec Skilled Worker Program.
Profiles in the bank will receive a score based on the following factors consist of:
To be considered, each profile will have to meet the lowest required score of two points in education (secondary school general diploma). For financial self-sufficiency, one point is awarded.
Under the new program, a Valid Employment Offer adds to the points. However, it is not a compulsory requirement. Children, Family, and Financial Self-sufficiency increase your points score as well.
