The Year-End Express Entry Report for 2022 is Released by IRCC
The annual report on Express Entry was released by IRCC on September 26. In 2022, it was found that 46,539 ITAs were issued in total 24 Express Entry draws. As compared to 2021, this is 59% fewer ITAs (114,431).
The main reason was the pause in Express Entry draws for Federal High Skilled programs between September 2021 and July 2022. Most Express Entry ITAs were issued to candidates in the Canadian Experience Class (18,895) and Provincial Nominee Program (19,258) in 2022.
The final 8,386 ITAs were issued to the candidates under the Federal Skilled Worker Program. IRCC did not invite any Express Entry candidates through the Federal Skilled Trades Program in 2022. Software engineers and designers, information systems specialists, computer systems developers, and programmers were the most common occupations to receive an ITA.
Cooks and food service supervisors also come under the most common occupations for an ITA.
A total of 30,000 ITAs were provided to the residents of Canada. Nigerian (1,730) and Indian (3,787) residents received invitations among the remaining ITAs.
What is Category-Based Selection?
The immigration minister has been authorized to select immigrants based on the key attributes that support Canada’s economic priorities such as specific work experience, or knowledge of French, after the changes made by the government of Canada to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act in June 2022.
In line with this new authority in May 2023, 6 new Express Entry categories were announced by IRCC which are trades, transport, healthcare, STEM professions, agriculture and agri-food, and strong French abilities. After consultations with provincial governments, stakeholders, and IRCC partners, these categories were selected.
Economic immigration candidates are those who are most likely to successfully integrate into the provincial economy. Provincial governments can select such candidates as reflected by new categories in existing streams under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) in some ways. Work experience in an in-demand job or language proficiency are some attributes that help in the selection of the candidates.
