Canada’s 2025 Express Entry Immigration Target
As outlined in Canada’s 2025-2027 Immigration Levels Plan, the country aims to welcome 124,680 new permanent residents through Express Entry this year.
It’s important to understand that the figures in the Immigration Levels Plan refer to actual permanent resident (PR) landings, not the number of ITAs. A “landing” occurs when an applicant officially enters Canada and activates their permanent resident status. It marks the final step in the immigration process.
In contrast, an ITA is simply an invitation to submit a PR application. Not all ITAs result in landings, as some may be returned, declined, or rejected if the applicant is found ineligible or if the application is refused by IRCC.
What to Do If You Receive an ITA
If you receive an ITA via your Express Entry profile and wish to apply for permanent residence, you must submit a complete application within 60 days of receiving the invitation. If you do not respond within the given timeframe and don’t decline the ITA, your profile may be removed from consideration.
Applicants must prepare and submit various documents with their application, including:
- A valid passport or travel document
- Birth certificate
- Proof of work experience
- Police clearance certificates
- Results from an immigration medical examination
- Evidence of settlement funds
- Photographs of the principal applicant and any accompanying family members
Being prepared with these documents can help ensure a smooth and timely submission process.
