In the first Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw of the year, Manitoba issued more Letters of Advice to Apply (LAA) to candidates in the Skilled Worker Overseas and Skilled Worker in Manitoba streams.
Additionally, Alberta has updated its provincial nominations from last year, having held a significant draw on December 23, 2024. This article provides an overview of the results from these two immigration draws.
Manitoba
On January 9, the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) held draws under two streams.
The first draw was under the Skilled Worker in Manitoba stream, inviting 145 candidates. The lowest-ranked candidate in this draw had a score of 838. Candidates, or their spouses, were required to have completed post-secondary education in Manitoba to be considered for this draw.
The second draw took place under the Skilled Worker Overseas stream, focusing on candidates from the Winkler area. In this draw, 52 candidates received invitations, with the lowest-ranked candidate scoring 615.
A total of 197 Letters of Advice to Apply were issued, including 52 for candidates with a valid Express Entry profile number and job seeker validation code.
Alberta
On December 23, 2024, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) conducted a draw through the Alberta Opportunity stream, targeting candidates who met specific eligibility criteria. A total of 588 invitations were issued, with the lowest-ranked candidate having a score of 55.
To qualify for this draw, applicants needed:
- A valid eligible work permit (excluding Post-Graduation Work Permits), expiring on December 31, 2025, or later
- At least a high school education equivalent to Canadian standards
- A Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) or Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (NCLC) level 4 or higher
- A minimum of 12 months of work experience in Alberta
- A full-time job offer from an Alberta employer in an eligible occupation, excluding occupations in the National Occupational Classification (NOC) categories ‘1 – Business, finance, and administration occupations’ and ‘6 – Sales and service occupations’
