Three provinces in Canada issued invites this week to candidates who have expressed interest in their Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).
The PNP, which was adopted in 1998, is a policy that ensures the benefits of immigration are shared across Canada. It does this by providing for a sharing of immigration responsibilities between the federal government and provincial governments. To date, the PNP is one of the biggest avenues through which skilled workers seek to immigrate into Canada.
Although worth much, a provincial nomination is by no means a guaranteed route to PR. Applicants will still have to undergo the processing mechanism with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). However, nominating does jump a candidate a lot in the queue, in that those nominated through Express Entry are given an additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points, which assures nearly everybody to get an ITA in the following round of Express Entry.
