First Ever Category Based Express Entry Draw for STEM was held this week, the Second round of category-based express entry had issued by IRCC.
This time category-based selection is held for the candidates of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) occupations who are eligible to apply in this scheme.
In this draw, the required CRS score is 480, and 500 candidates were invited.
The draw was expected as IRCC had announced before that Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) first-ever draw for the category based held this week.
IRCC has also confirmed that this week’s next round of healthcare category based invited 1500 total candidates to apply for PR.
Recently the category-based selection held for the healthcare sector invited 500 health workers on 28 June with a minimum CRS score of 476, so far this is the minimum score requirement in 2023.
In a sudden draw held on 4 July, invited 700 candidates in all programs with a minimum score requirement of 511.
Express Entry candidates from the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program are considered in an all-program draw.
STEM Occupations for Category-Based Draw
According to a recent news release from IRCC, by prioritizing the invitation of skilled newcomers with STEM experience.
Canada hopes to meet the nation’s growing demand for talent and fill key positions that contribute to economic growth and technological advancement.
Eligible Occupations under STEM Selection include the following:

➤ Experts in business systems
➤ Building engineers
➤ Managers of computer and information systems
➤ Computer science engineers, excluding Software designers and Developers
➤ Programmers and developers of computer systems
➤ Cyber security professionals
➤ Data Scientists
➤ Database administrators and analysts
➤ Engineers in the electrical and electronics field
➤ Managers of engineering Industrial and manufacturing engineers
➤ Specialists in information systems
➤ Surveyors of land
➤ Landscape Designers
➤ Actuaries, statisticians, and mathematicians
➤ Material and metallurgical engineers
➤ Policy researchers, consultants, and program officers in natural and applied sciences
➤ Programmers and software developers
➤ Designers and developers of software
➤ Planners of urban and rural areas
➤ Websites Designers
➤ Programmers and web developers
On May 31, Canada’s Immigration Minister, Sean Fraser, announced that IRCC had finalized new category-based selection criteria for Express Entry selection draws. The categories were developed in consultation with IRCC partners and stakeholders, as well as provincial and territorial governments, based on labour market projections. The category-based selection draws finalized are as follows:
➤ STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics)
➤ Healthcare Occupations.
➤ Trade workers.
➤ Agriculture and agri-food transportation.
➤ French language proficiency.
Since June 2022, when the Government of Canada amended the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act to allow for the selection of immigrants based on key attributes that support Canada’s economic priorities, such as specific work experience to fill labour market gaps or knowledge of French, category-based selection draws have been expected.
