3000 candidates were invited in the latest Express Entry draw. It was an all-program draw in which the cut-off CRS score to receive ITA was 504.
The First Express Entry Draw was Held by IRCC After One Month. 3200 candidates were invited by IRCC on September 19 in an all-program draw and 1000 candidates were invited in the first-ever category-based draw on the following day for transport occupation.
What is a Category-Based Selection?
Immigration, Refugees, Citizenship and Canada (IRCC) announced that in May this year, it would start holding draws for Express Entry candidates based on one specific attribute rather than their overall Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.
Following a change to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) in 2022, the introduction of categories was expected to take place this year that gives Immigration Minister the authority to select Express Entry candidates who are likely to help Canada meet its goal to strengthen the economy and promote the French language outside of Quebec.
For in-demand occupations and newcomers with strong French language abilities, six new categories were created. Healthcare, Trades, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) professions, Transport, Agriculture, and Agri-Food are the five occupation-based categories.
Draws were held by the IRCC in each of these categories except for agriculture and agri-food, since the first category-based draw for healthcare workers on June 28. Candidates with strong abilities in French were issued the highest number of category-based ITAs (6,900). Candidates are required to be in the Express Entry pool and meet a minimum score if they wish to immigrate to Canada through category-based selection.
