A minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 470 was required to be considered in this draw. It is the second draw of December. 4,750 candidates were invited by IRCC on December 6, with a CRS score of 561 in an all-program draw.
First Express Entry Draw Since October 2023 Was Held by Canada which was the first Express Entry draw of December. 3,600 candidates were invited to the draw which took place before that on October 26 with a CRS score of 431. It was a category-based selection draw for healthcare occupations.

Category-Based Selection and Express Entry
The application management system that processes permanent residence applications from candidates in the Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, and Federal Skilled Trades Program is known as Express Entry Canada.
Candidates applying through Express Entry Canada are usually evaluated by using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). CRS scores are based on the collective human capital attributes which include factors like age, work experience, language proficiency, education etc. IRCC also announced in May this year that it will hold a category-based selection Express Entry round of invitations.
Candidates who meet the criteria for a specific attribute were targeted by this draw. Specific attributes like French-language proficiency or work experience in sectors like transport, trades, healthcare, STEM professions, agriculture, and agri-food are required for category-based selection.
These occupations are currently experiencing a shortage of workers, which is putting a strain on the economy of Canada. Other key sectors like supply chain and healthcare are also getting affected by the shortage. Since the first category-based draw was held in June, candidates have been invited 12 times through category-based draws, totaling over 11,000 ITAs. All of these candidates were already in the Express Entry pool.
